Description

The title of Exercise 10 in Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain is "Transferring Your Hand Drawing From Picture Plane to Paper". I did indeed use the shaded page I posted earlier this week, and boy did this thing drive me batty. See that middle finger? I did the best I could with it. For some reason, I could not get the lines for it correct, so it looks a little odd. In comparison, the forefinger looks only slightly mutated from what it was on the picturep lane. For reference, the Picture Plane is a page of flexible clear plastic with a crosshair drawn on it for aid in drawing pictures. The theory is, if you're using the workbook, you'll use the pages set aside specifically for each exercise, which already have pale crosshairs drawn on them. I anticipate not doing this. When I got this workbook, I decided I would do my best not to mark it up too much, and got myself a sketch pad with easy-to-remove pages to draw my exercises on. They aren't exactly the correct size, but I make do. It's more important to me to have loose pages to work on, because there is no way I could tape the workbook down without somehow tearing up the pages when I remove the tape, no matter what kind of tape I used.

I think, for what it is, I did a pretty good job, though I will definitely be doing my best to be less heavy with the shading of the next exercise I have to do it for. No, my pinkie isn't broken, though I think it looks like it is. I think my favorite part of this sketch is my thumb.

For this drawing, I used:

The page I shaded for Exercise 9, which includes: 1) 1 page from a Strathmore Sketch pad measuring 5.5"x8.5" (14x21.6 cm); and 2) #4B Graphite Stick.
#2 pencil
Liberal use of an eraser, just in creating the drawing, never mind the lighting effects.
And even more of that #4B Graphite Stick.
